while Jupiter juggles her moons.

as they orbit around our Sun.

they glow like friends of old

who’ve missed each other’s company

while so long on the road.

They shine upon us—Planet Earth—

their cousin small but dear,

they see our candles answer back

through light years far yet near.

Perhaps it’s just coincidence

that in this month and year

they join their light

on our longest night
